He warned residents to stop misusing the traps or dresses for their children from the nets because they are dangerous to humans. "Make by-laws where by anyone caught misusing them should be punished heavily," he advised.
The minister had learnt from the LC5 chairman, Daniel Kikoola, that some fishermen use the traps to dry their mukene (dagga fish), while others use them to process a local brew known as kwete.
The minister also promised to send a boat and 50 bicycles to the Kalangala entomology department to ease the transport problems for the 50 community volunteers who will be setting and monitoring traps in the field.
