“We were having a photoshoot on a frozen lake in Finland, it was minus-28 degrees and we were walking on the improvised runway on the ice in bathsuits. Because of the low temperature I entered into a state of hypothermia.

The show was created following the success of similar shows Green Prom Dresses America and Britain. And producer Vlad Sterescu says Romania has a lot to offer when it comes to talent.

“Many people do not realise but there are actually a lot of Romanian supermodels doing really well for themselves,” he says.
“For this show, we held castings in all major cities in Romania and each city we kept a few from between 400 and 2000 ladies.
“We are talking about the next top model so we were looking for non-professionals, girls with no experience.

“The girls we have are new and fresh - they didn’t know Pink Prom Dresses about modelling except what they’d seen on TV and they’ve learned step by step.”

The trend originated in Japan, where maid cafes - a breakaway of cosplay restaurants - have been around for over a decade.
In Meidolls, the Manila cafe, waitresses dress as cartoon-inspired French maids, complete with wigs with long tresses, dresses and pinafores. Some wear cat or rabbit ears with their outfits, while others sport pink hair.
