Dresses we were approached

While there was a controversy surrounding the selection of the designers, the sisters are unperturbed and instead are concentrating on the collection they are going to showcase. There have been speculations and we have been asked a lot of questions but the truth is that the finalé Plus Size Dresses for Lakme Fashion Week is selected based on the theme of the collection. Last year, it was gypsy and Malini Ramani was chosen to do it. This year s theme is fairy tale and fantasy, which has always been our inspiration, especially Alice in Wonderland. We are pretty excited about being the finalé designers for one  of the oldest fashion weeks in the country and for us, doing it is great, Nainika informs us.

We also learnt that the designer duo was Black Prom Dresses at least four months ago about the theme as that s how long ahead the finalé designers are chosen.

The designer duo has been instrumental in changing the face of Indian fashion. Now, for making any red carpet appearances or attending any events, most celebrities find it fashionable and safe to stick to a Gauri Nainika gown. Our turning point was 2004 Lakme Fashion Week, post Blue Prom Dresses we were approached by actors to design for their red carpet appearances. Since then, we ve been designing for a lot of celebrities, says Nainika, who never thought that they would be designing for celebrities on the red carpet one day. People who saw our designs that time would ask, ‘who would wear these? but now our gowns and dresses have become very popular, adds Nainika.

The sisters wouldn t have it any other way as it is their Wedding Dresses come true to be working and designing together. We have a strong design sensibility and there are hardly any differences. We always wanted to create Western gowns so that people did not have to wait for someone to go abroad to get what they want, says Nainika.

How can a stylish man wear jewellery without looking like Bappi da? In his book, Dressing the Man, Alan Flusser talks about how a man should sport his jewellery.

According to Flusser, since the Victorian times, stylish men have tended to avoid all but the most discreet and useful of accessories. With the exception of the finger ring, everything else was worn for a specific reason. The money clip, tie clip, collar pin, key chain, cuff links, shirt studs, and wristwatch are utilitarian first, decorative second. However, a gentleman can still wear quite an array of jewellery without taxing the limits of good taste.

In pre-WW I days, a hip flask and a cigarette case were considered essential accessories for a generation that swore by a drink before and a cigarette after. In the '80s, a man's jewellery was supposed to signify his social and business status. And so men came to wear cuff links, suspenders, Short Prom Dresses collectors wrist- or pocketwatch, and writing instruments. Now that you know what was in vogue once upon a time, how about checking what those tall, dark and handsome guys must accessorise their looks with?
